Runcorn Town Community Land Trust was set up by local people with the full support of Halton Borough Council, to develop a community-led housing project as part of the Runcorn Town Investment Plan. Breaking Ground has been working closely with both RTCLT and HBC to realise the aims of the project which focuses on the Rutland/Egerton/Ashridge Street areas, where the flyover was demolished. The project’s progress has been restricted due to lack of essential funding, and the original concept design for housing on the site for 36 varied homes and smaller workplaces, is not viable. HBC has been advised to reduce the scope of their bid for Government funding and submit a business case for land remediation work only, not construction of houses. The bid has now been approved, which should enable land remediation to be delivered, which will reduce cost and uncertainty to benefit a future community led housing development.
